We are delighted that you are considering the RGS for your son. We hope that the information contained within this area of the website answers all the questions you may have about the process.
The choice of the right Secondary School for your son and then the subsequent application procedure can seem, at first, to be both unsettling and daunting. The RGS aims to make the whole process as transparent, smooth and clear as possible, and to guide parents through the various stages for each entry point from initial interest, to enquiry, to visiting the School, to registration, to assessment and to confirmation of the outcome.
The information provided on the website will give a systematic insight into each phase; however, we fully appreciate what an important decision this is and we encourage all prospective parents to get in touch if further clarification is required on any element of the admissions literature.
Our entrance procedures are designed to help us offer places to boys who will flourish here. The normal ages for entry to the RGS are 11 (Year 7), 13 (Year 9) and into the Sixth Form (Year 12). Very occasionally, individual boys are admitted at other times, provided a vacancy exists.
Boys wishing to enter the School at 11 or 13 take the RGS Entrance Examinations in the January of their Year 6.
I look forward to meeting you in due course.
