The aim of the RGS is to provide an excellent education for boys by developing character and intellect within a scholarly community in which each individual is cared for and valued equally. RGS students are happy, grounded individuals who, supported by outstanding pastoral care and a nurturing, welcoming environment, are given the opportunity to grow and fulfil their considerable potential.
While the RGS is a non-denominational school, its ethos is firmly based on sound Christian principles. RGS students develop into articulate, tolerant and compassionate young men who take pride in all that they do and have confidence in themselves.
To encourage the growth of intellectual curiosity, creativity and habits of learning within a scholarly community by the provision of talented and committed members of staff, who will inculcate a lifelong love of learning in the boys.
To offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities through which boys can establish important life skills and can develop their social, sporting and cultural abilities.
To encourage the development in every boy of self-discipline, responsibility, spiritual values and a personal moral code, leading to the highest possible standards of behaviour, consideration for others and a pride in himself and his school.
To continue to meet the charitable aspects for which the School was established by encouraging an awareness of the world outside and a sense of service to the local and wider community and by developing and broadening the range of innovative educational projects in conjunction with local, national and international partners.
