Job opportunities

Welcome to the job opportunities page of the RGS website: thank you for your interest. The School is a lively community of approximately 900 boys and 100 staff; it is situated in the heart of the historic town of Guildford, a flourishing and vibrant place to live and work. Guildford has excellent communications links by road and rail enabling boys and staff to commute to the School.

The School is an historic foundation dating from 1509. The original Tudor building constructed between 1557 and 1586 is still used by the School. Across the road from the Tudor building is the main building: facilities are excellent with investment into refurbishment and rebuilding continuing on an on-going basis.

The boys are naturally able and inquisitive and are a delight to teach. Academic standards in the School are high; the curriculum is enriched by an extensive extra-curricular programme in which all academic staff are expected to participate. Sports and the Arts are an important element in School life.

RGS has its own salary scale and a competitive salary well above the national scale is offered to the successful applicant. A generous relocation package is also available, including a mortgage subsidy scheme. Staff are encouraged to undertake regular training courses and CPD is well supported. The RGS has a proven track record of career progression, both internally in the School and promotion to other schools.

The RGS welcomes applications, for both teaching and support posts, from all suitably qualified persons, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion or sexual orientation. The RGS Equal Opportunities Policy is available on the RGS website.

The RGS has a responsibility for, and commitment to, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The person appointed to each post will be required to apply for an enhanced Disclosure Certificate from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).

Thank you again for your interest: I hope to receive your application in due course.

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

The RGS welcomes applications for posts advertised irrespective of whether or not applicants have a formal teaching qualification. It is essential that applicants have an appropriate degree qualification in the subject they wish to teach; however, it is not vital that they have any formal teacher training. Once employed by the RGS on a permanent contract, the School will support those members of staff to whom it applies in gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through an appropriate Initial Teacher Training route.
