Classical Civilisation
Classical Civilisation has been an option in the Sixth Form since 1998. We follow the OCR JACT syllabus at AS and A2 level, which involves the study of Greek and Roman Epic, Greek Comedy and Greek Tragedy all through English translations of the ancient texts. The study is primarily literary, though as the title suggests other elements of Greek and Roman civilisation feature in important parts. These include the religious, social, political and artistic life of both cultures in their Golden Age.
No prior knowledge of Ancient Greek or Latin is required to study Classical Civilisation at AS or A2 level and students combine their study with the whole range of other subjects offered in the Sixth Form.
