Chemistry

Aims

  • To stimulate enthusiasm for and enjoyment of chemistry
  • To help pupils gain a secure knowledge and understanding of the subject and to enable them to apply chemical theories in different situations
  • To develop safe and efficient practical skills
  • To experience the latest in ICT
  • To enable pupils to communicate chemical ideas and results clearly
  • To develop an understanding of the importance of chemistry in industry and technology and to appreciate its relevance in society

We strongly believe in the importance of experimental work and have our own IR spectrometer and a class set of the most up-to-date dataloggers. The uptake for A-level Chemistry in the past few years has been high with numerous pupils going on to study Chemistry, Natural Sciences and Medicine at Oxbridge.

Recent successes include two U6 being among the highest scoring gold medallists in the International Chemistry Olympiad, several students gaining CREST gold awards, a Fifth year winning £1000 in the RSC “Five Decade Challenge”, numerous Fourth Year pupils being selected for the Salters’ Chemistry Camps and a second year team winning the regional Salters’ Festival of Chemistry.
