Admissions

Welcome to the Admissions department at RGS.  I look forward to meeting you at an Open Day or for an individual visit.  Please get in touch if I can help with any stage of the Admissions process.

Our entrance procedures are designed to help us offer places to boys who will flourish here. The normal ages for entry to the RGS are 11 (Year 7), 13 (Year 9) and into the Sixth Form (Year 12). Occasionally, individual boys are admitted at other times, provided a vacancy exists.

Boys wishing to enter the School at 11 take the RGS Entrance Examination in the January of their Year 6. The 2014 exam will take place on Saturday 11 January. The examinations test English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning. Boys are admitted on the basis of these examinations, an interview and a confidential report from the Head of the boy's present school.

Boys wishing to enter the School at 13 should take the RGS Entrance Examination at the age of 11 and defer their place for two years. Offers are confirmed by passing the RGS Scholarship or Common Entrance Examination (taken in Year 8).

Boys wishing to enter the Sixth Form at age 16 are interviewed at RGS during the Lent Term. Normally they will meet the Headmaster, the Head of Sixth Form and the Heads of Department of their proposed A Level subjects. Successful candidates will be provisionally offered a place subject to satisfactory GCSE grades being achieved.

The procedure by which boys join the RGS is explained in the Admissions Supplement document.
