The RGS is saddened to announce the passing, after a short illness, of Charles Grogan on 5th July 2008. Charles was Head of Science - and many other things during his time at the RGS - until 1986. The Funeral Service will be held at Guildford Crematorium on Monday 21st July at 11.00am. Family flowers only please, or donations if desired to Marie Curie c/o Robert Ayling's.
He will be dearly missed. |

The week of 14 - 18 July saw the third annual Summer School for Year 5 pupils from local primary schools. This year 40 youngsters experienced courses in Classics, German, Russian, English and Drama, Science, Sport, Art, Music and ICT. The week was frantic as the boys and girls were 'exposed' to - among other things - learning the Greek and Russian alphabets; adapting and performing Roald Dahl's "Boy"; boiling Jelly Babies!; attempting judo and fencing; producing a perspective watercolour; all toppied off by designing a personal website of their week's activities.
We hope - actually we know - all enjoyed their time with us and wish all 40 the very best for the future. |

Unfortunately, attrocious weather wiped out the final 2 days of the annual RGS Cricket festival - this year held in Newcastle.
Fortunately, the 1st XI managed to record 2 wins on the first 2 days - High Wycombe 144 - 8, RGS 147 - 5 and RGS 247, Newcastle 140 - which meant they won the tournament for the third time in six years.
Congratulations to the team and coaches Mr Shore and Monte Lynch. Cricket at the RGS is looking very strong under Monte's coaching regime! |

CCF Honorary Colonel and School Governor John Rule visited the weekly parade to present engraved service tankards to this year's senior cadets. The cadets have been instrumental in developing training resources as well as taking key roles in fieldcraft exercises. They are also all excellent role models for the junior cadets. |
